IT DBA/Developer

Our client seeks a IT DBA/Developer to join their team. Role Profile: The SQLDBA/dev role is a hybrid position that combines the responsibilities of aDatabase Administrator (DBA) with those of a SQL developer. This role requires askilled individual with expertise in both database management and SQLdevelopment. Part of the IT Architecture & Engineering team, the SQLDBA/Developer is responsible for support, maintenance and administration of theSQL database servers and databases of key applications and services, bringingtheir experience to ensure that business needs are met through: KeyResponsibilities: Management of the database server architecture, including,configuration and maintenance of SQL databases [e.g., SQL Server, Azure SQL].Performing DBA administrative tasks including performance monitoring,optimisation and tuning databases for optimal performance, ensuring smoothoperation of applications and overall database health. Implementing robustsecurity measures to protect sensitive data, including user access control andencryption. Inputting to Corporate backup and recovery strategies to minimizedata loss and downtime in case of emergencies. Collaborating with the planningand implementing disaster recovery procedures to ensure quick databaserestoration in case of system failures. Collaborating with engineering andinfrastructure colleagues to identify and implement beneficial/best practicemaintenance plans that are appropriate for the required business need for onpremise and clouds based platforms (e.g., Amazon RDS, Microsoft Azure SQLDatabase).Working closely with application developers to understand their dataneeds and assist in designing appropriate database solutions. The analysis,design, specification, development, testing and documenting of new and amendedprograms in accordance with agreed standards to meet defined business needs,retaining compatibility with enterprise and solution architectures. Theprovision of system support to ensure business processing is completed inaccordance with agreed service agreements. The SQL DBA/Developer is a member ofthe wider technology team, who plays a critical role in ensuring the smoothoperation, security, and performance of SQL Server databases. They bridge thegap between the database and application development teams, ensuring data ismanaged efficiently and effectively to support business needs. Key Skills andExperience: Thorough knowledge of the systems development life cycle, frominception through analysis, development & testing, to implementation.Experience, across a range of platforms and disciplines, of more than 2concurrent projects each of more than 6 months duration. Experience of MicrosoftSQL Server is essential, including experience of T-SQL, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, SQLperformance tuning & fault analysis. Previous experience of cloud-based databaseplatforms Amazon RDS, Microsoft Azure SQL extremely beneficial. Previousexperience of Microsoft Data platform tools (Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric)beneficial. Education to graduate level or relevant work experience. A proactiveindividual, self-motivated, and able to use own initiative.
